The Local Almuerzo
Mesón la Cepa
Mesón La Cepa is a traditional almuerzo bar in Valencia, a place where locals gather for coffee, conversation and the typical late-morning sandwich ritual.
The goal of this project was not to reinvent the restaurant, but to carefully restore its character while improving the overall atmosphere and flow of the space. By working with many of the existing elements and introducing subtle changes in layout, materials and lighting, the bar was transformed into a warmer and more balanced environment that still feels authentically local.

Project Highlights

Restaurant layout
The restaurant spans approximately 110 m² and includes a bar, kitchen, dining area and an additional seating corner. Outside, a terrace offers seating for 14 guests, while inside the layout accommodates a mix of larger and smaller tables suited for both groups and everyday local visitors.
Working with what was already there
Due to a limited budget, many existing elements were carefully preserved and integrated into the design. Original tables, materials and decorative pieces were reused, while new additions such as wallpaper, styling and improved lighting helped unify the space and bring a fresh identity to the restaurant.
A subtle but impactful transformation
A new floor was installed and the bar was sanded and refinished, allowing the natural warmth of the wood to stand out again. Brickwork that was previously overwhelming was turned into an accent feature, and oversized lighting fixtures were replaced with a more balanced lighting plan to create a calmer and more intimate atmosphere.
